Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

  1. Revelation 3:20 is often used as an invitation to salvation, but when one looks honestly at the context of the verse he gets a totally different perspective. First, the verse was written to a church of the first century.
Second, the invitation is to “come in and sup,” clearly indicating a desire for close fellowship. Thus God is indicating that He wants a very close relationship with His children and is knocking on the door of their hearts in an attempt to initiate it.
