Seasons – Hon. Christian Inkwell

As I contemplate the words of your recent correspondence, I am reminded of the words of the Teacher,

“…I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him. Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account. And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment – wickedness was there, in the place of justice – wickedness was there. I though in my heart, God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed.” Ecc. 3:14-17 NIV

My dear friend, recall the fiery sermon of Pastor Muhlenberg, where we both sat in rapt attention? Remember the passion, when he preached the message on Ecclesiastes 3:1,”For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Did he not close by saying:

“In the language of the Holy Writ, there is a time for all things. There is a time to preach and a time to fight.”

Were we not astounded to witness  him throw off his robes to reveal underneath the uniform of the 8th Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary Army? And we know the outcome of his decision. He led 300 men, that very afternoon, and marched off to join General Washington’s troops. Did he not serve this country with distinction? At the end of the War he was promoted to the rank of Major-General. Did he not go on to serve as a Senator from the great State of Pennsylvania? Yes, our fiery preacher, knowing the season, was prepared for its arrival, and when it came, he acted.  He continued with that same passion till the end. Did he not hear “‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’? Mat. 25:21 NIV

Is not the words of Charles Finney reminiscent of this passion?  The vibrant Mr. Finney proclaimed

“The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics, of the Lord will curse them…God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are a part of religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God.”

Is it not time to act, my dear friend?  We should consider the conduct of Patriot Muhlenberg, who was prepared to act for God and this country. Are we also ready to fight the spiritual battle and foray into the political battles to protect this great nation? We did in the past my dearest Co-Patriot.

I am aware, as you my dear friend, there is a season and a time for ever matter under heaven. We should be ready to battle for this great nation.  Plainly, it is under attack from within. The very foundations are being eroded and are under attack.

As Pastor Muhlenberg,  we need to throw off our earthly cloaks and lead those into battle for this country. Let us not be found sitting in the pew, while the war rages around us. Let us be on our knees listening for His call and direction.

In warm affection,

Your friend,

The Hon. Christian Inkwell
